How to Bill a Newborn Baby without a PHN
A newborn baby will not have a BC Personal Health Identification (PHN) until the parent(s) register one for him/her (this should be done within 60 days after birth). Therefore, you can submit a claim for a newborn patient using the mother's PHN.
To bill a newborn patient, please check "Newborn" when creating the baby's patient profile and enter the mother's PHN. Once the baby is assigned a PHN, the patient profile must be updated with the baby's PHN and uncheck the "Newborn" indicator.
