When signing up for Dr.Bill, you might feel overwhelmed with the questions you get asked to complete your account setup. This article should help direct you on what forms you might need to complete depending on your situation.
First of all, you might be asking, what is a Payee Number?
The Payee Number tells MSP where payment of the claims should be sent. If you are new to billing, your payee number is usually the same as your 5-digit MSP Practitioner Number. This is different than your college number given to you when you graduate.
You can have multiple Payee numbers depending on your billing situation, but a Payee number can only be connected to one Data Centre at a time.
When you first log in on the web – you'll see a banner prompting you to complete your connection paperwork:
Although you can use Dr.Bill without completing your paperwork, you won't get paid. Your Payee number will need to be connected to our Data Centre (T9151) in order to submit your claims to MSP for payment.
Clicking on the banner will bring you to a short questionnaire in order to determine which MSP paperwork you'll need based on your current situation:
Answering the questions will generate forms for you to fill out in our system. Follow the prompts to fill out and sign your e-documents. Once complete, our team will review your forms and send them to MSP for processing.
For your reference, here are the possible paperwork scenarios:
Teleplan Application (Join Service Bureau):
Fill this out if you want to connect your existing payee number (which means you are not billing with this number anywhere else).
If you are new to practice, your Payee number is the same as your MSP number. For example J1234.
New payee #:
Fill this out if you need a new payee number because you are billing somewhere else with your current payee number:
Along with a New Payee form, a Direct Deposit will be required.
When filling in the Direct Deposit form along with a New Payee application, please put payee in the MSP Payment Number field to ensure MSP applies this banking information to the New Payee number they assign you.
If you've recently incorporated, or you're already incorporated please contact our team and we'll double check you'll filled out the correct paperwork.
There are other forms that may be required when signing up for Dr.Bill, but these are the most common. Our team is happy to help with whatever forms need to be completed.
You can start submitting claims right away, they will be saved in our system until your paperwork is processed.
MSP takes approximately 7-10 business days to process applications, including Direct Deposit updates. We will notify you as soon as you become connected or if there are any issues with your forms.
Once connected, your claims will be automatically submitted to MSP every 6 hours.
