MRP (Most Responsible Physician): The physician/service who admits the patient to the hospital. The MRP can transfer doctors and specialties throughout a patient’s hospital stay, but only one doctor can be MRP for the patient at one time.

As the MRP, there are some premiums that you become eligible for:

E082 premium can be added to an admission consult or assessment. This premium is only allowed once per admission.

E083 premium added to subsequent visits:

C122 + E083 is billed day 2 of hospital admission assessment

C123 + E083 is billed day 3 of hospital admission assessment

         Hospital visit + E083

C124 + E083 are billed on day of discharge.

*note patient must be in hospital for 48 hours to bill C124 + E083

ICU Billings:

C142 + E083 is billed by MRP on day 1 after leaving ICU

*note physician that admits to ICU must not be the same physician that patient is discharged to.

C143 + E083 is billed by MRP on day 2 after leaving ICU

*note physician that admits to ICU must not be the same physician that the patient is discharged to.

C122 and C123 are not eligible for payment after surgery.
